AI for crop production: start with the process
A facility can have many sensors and still leave one question unanswered: what do we do with that information? The starting point is to identify a specific crop-management decision.
This might mean reviewing when irrigation starts, understanding why one area moves away from expected conditions, or comparing how two programmes operate. A tool has value when it helps address that task.
Automation and artificial intelligence serve different purposes
A programme can activate equipment according to predefined schedules and conditions. Automation follows the operating conditions defined by the technical team.
AI can be explored as support for consulting information, analysing situations and preparing management proposals. Its scope depends on the available data and the tools it can access. Its contribution is assessed in the actual work: which decision it supports and how the result is checked.
Data needs context
The same measurement may call for different decisions depending on the crop, development stage, facility and work objective. Measurements should therefore be combined with the context provided by the technical team.
It is also important to distinguish measured values from estimates and to record management changes. Without that foundation, it is difficult to know whether a recommendation was useful.
Choose a first process
Start by defining what you want to improve, which information you need and what result would allow progress to be assessed. Current operation can then be compared with the proposal under documented conditions.
To assess water savings, you need to record the volume used and the production conditions. A substrate-moisture reading provides management information, but does not by itself demonstrate savings.
Technology integrated with the greenhouse
CiberAgro integrates infrastructure and equipment with Sinthesis measurement, analysis and advanced control technology. This foundation supports work on specific processes and assessment of which additional AI contributions make sense for each project.
